The background

Naseby battlefield can genuinely lay claim to being the birthplace of modern western democracy, and is arguably the two most important hours in English history.

The Battle of Naseby took place on 14 June 1645 during the First English Civil War, near the village of Naseby in Northamptonshire. The Parliamentarian New Model Army, commanded by Sir Thomas Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell, destroyed the main Royalist army under Charles I and Prince Rupert. Defeat ended any real hope of royalist victory, although Charles did not finally surrender until May 1646.

They run public and bespoke tours which cater for all ages - from school children to retirees. They have exciting plans to create immersive and engaging experiences for those who wish to visit in person as well as for those who want to experience it from their home or school or academic institution.

The brief

They wanted a website that displayed a large amount of information about the battle in an easy to digest design that was responsive, accessible to all ages and more user friendly than their existing site.

They also wanted to utilise CRM to streamline their processes and reduce needless administration tasks. Their existing website had very basic data gathering - they were having to manually enter information into spreadsheets and they weren’t able to gather data that would help them understand more about who their visitors were and what they wanted from the website and tours. With our Hubspot CRM integration, they were able to gather the data they needed automatically.

The process

We started with scoping the project and creating a wireframe. We then identified the site map and specified the requirements of each of the pages.

We then built the wireframe and used XD to build the design ahead of utilising WordPress for the final development stage.

The challenge

We were challenged with translating a huge amount of historical information in a design that is easily digestible for a wide age range. There was also the requirement for a bespoke page scroll animation, which was built specifically for the project.

The result

Since the website went live in late 2023, their traffic has increased almost 150%, and Ergo won the Gold award at the London Design Awards 2024 for UX Design on this project.
